Flash Back Photo Friday

Friday Photo Flashback

Since I have been unable to scan some pics of Isaac as a baby for FBPF, I decided to spotlight some pics I had uploaded a long time ago to Shutterfly. I know this kinda breaks the rules but I have no scanner or desktop for that matter right now!

When Isaac was a baby, we would find him all over the place when he was sleeping. These are just a few of the funny positions!!

He used to love to sleep with socks on his hands.
And if you can't tell, he was obsessed with Spiderman!!
I just had to add this pic of my boys and my neice, Marin. She came down for her first visit when she was about 9 months old!! It just happened to be Easter! She just turned 5 last month and will be heading to Kindergarten in the fall. (sniff- sniff)

I am not sure how to take this....

You know how you really start noticing something when it hits close to home? This article greeted us this morning on the front page of the Longview News Journal...

Longview area on vehicle theft list. Area ranks in top 100 nationally

I don't know whether to feel better or worse about our car stolen. Better because at least we weren't targeted or worse because we should just feel unsafe all of the time!! At least I feel better that it doesn't only happen in our neighborhood. I guess.....

Case # 09-3458

Okay... so here's the story of our car...

It was Sunday evening. Not a typical Sunday because we had no AWANA and Steve actually had the next day off of work for Memorial Day. So we ran to the store to pick up a few groceries(BlueBell Mint Chocolate Chip to be exact). We also ran by Sonic to pick up some drinks. So when we pulled in the driveway, we were in a rush to get the cold stuff in; in Texas cold food in the car have a very short life span. The Forringer's up the street were having their small group and so there were a ton of kids up and down the street playing, so off ran my boys. As Steve and I are bringing groceries in, I stopped to talk to my friend Adriana and noticed that Isaac was being carried down the street by my other neighbor Kevin. Apparently Isaac fell of his bike and skinned his knee up pretty badly. So I ran in to get him all doctored up and totally forgot to finish emptying out the car. Including bringing in my purse and locking the car doors. Those of you who know Isaac, knows he is pretty dramatic and so as far as he was concerned the evening was over b/c he could not walk with a skinned knee. So the next hour or so was getting him cleaned up and settled in to watch a movie. By this time its around 8:00pm.

Just a side note here... we know we don't live in the best area. Our immediate neighborhood is amazing. We know everyone all along our street and the surrounding ones as well. We have neighborhood meetings, dinners together and ALWAYS watch out for each other. We LOVE living here and feel very safe. But that being said, we are also careful. We always lock our car doors at night, bring in our bikes and scooters and set the alarm on our house every night. But this night we just let ourselves get distracted.

Back to the story.... Steve and I watched a movie later that night and finally went to sleep around 11:45. In the morning we were woken up to Isaac in my face at 7:15am telling me that some lady was at the door. Needless to say I was a little concerned. I quickly put myself together and looked out the window and saw our neighbor Connie at the door. I opened the door and Connie looking concerned asked "Are you alright?" Thinking that was an odd question I said "Yes, why?" She went on to explain that she and her husband were taking a walk and found papers and a wallet scattered all of the street in front of our house. When they began picking them up they realized that they belonged to us. Immediately concerned, she came to the door to make sure we were all OK. When I stepped out on the porch, that is when I noticed our car was gone. Of course I was in shock and immediately went to wake up Steve. Because our neighbors recently thought their car was stolen from their home but came to find out that they had forgotten they left in at the college (read about it here), Steve thought I was joking! Well, unfortunately it was no joke, the car was gone!! So began our interview with the police, reports, paperwork, insurance claims, rental car and waiting! We still have heard nothing and really don't expect to.

I know this...

I did not leave my keys in the car but may have had an extra key in my purse or console.

I feel like a complete idiot for leaving my purse in an unlocked car. Thankfully I had nothing in my wallet worth stealing so all of our financials are fine.

This is really inconvenient and will at least cost us a $500 deductible no matter what the outcome is.

My husbands GPS and my boys Nintendo DS's were in the car and so we are at least out those things!

And to be perfectly honest, I feel a little violated and angry! I am not afraid of living here, just upset that it was so easily done and we are left to pay the bill!!

But most importantly, I know God is in control and whatever the outcome, He has a plan! Praise!!

I will keep you updated on the progress and please pray for the outcome!!

Blue Screen of Death

Well, yesterday I sit down to check my email and I wiggled my mouse to bring back up my desktop screen and you guessed it.....
}}}THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH}}}
I am not sure what is going on but I can only suspect it is all of the fooling around my older son has been doing with it! He has been making movies like crazy and the files he saves are HUGE! I tried to go through earlier this week and delete unused and copied files to make some room but he can fill up memory faster than I can delete! My brilliant computer savvy husband is putting together a desktop computer just for Ethan b/c Ethan's laptop is so old and slow and so that he can stay off of mine! I am on Steve's laptop now but I am so old fashioned... I don't like it as much as my old reliable desktop! I fumble around on a laptop, have a ton of misspelled words b/c the keyboard is smaller, try to scroll down and it gets totally out of control and goes up and down and up and down and I always hit some button and the screen is downsized! Not to mention I hate the mouse!! UGGGGHHH!
Well, thankfully my wonderfully brilliant and talented husband knows a thing or two about computers and hopefully not all is lost!! I am trying not to think about it! All of the pictures.... all of the documents for my job.... all of the files for homeschooling.....all of the pictures. I have said a million times I was going to burn those pictures onto disks just in case!!
Now I feel better ranting and must get on with my day!! I may have to plan a funeral for this weekend but I will keep you posted!

Have you ever....

Have you ever just had one of those weeks? You know the kind I mean.... Can I go on one more day? Are the kids ever going to learn? Is my house ever going to feel clean? Are my husband and I going to ever work together? Is what I do important? What is my purpose?

I AM HAVING ONE OF THOSE WEEKS!! I have had no epiphany yet. I have no words of wisdom; no advice to offer; no triumphant scripture to bring it all into perspective. Just wanted to share. I know I will feel better and look back at this post and say "I am so dramatic! Why do continually make life harder for myself?" But today these feelings are real!!

Misplaced Passions

Our church is doing a 5 week sermon series on "Misplaced Passions". Our pastor was inspired to really convict and equip our church to deal with these very real issues of infidelity, emotional affairs and addictions that have so plagued our society and especially our churches today. They are wonderful but very detailed and honest. Our pastor is addressing men's issues while our executive pastor's wife is addressing the female side!! I am posting a link here to share what I feel like is a very serious issue that must be talked about in order to save our dying marriages!!

My Husband Rocks Friday - Flawed

I have been so negligent in this department over the last few weeks! I love the Flashback Photo Friday editions and I still need to post Isaac's baby pics but alas again my camera is out of commission and my scanner is not working either! Ethan once again used it to death and is right now having to charge!! I may try to post some later today!!

So, on to why my hubby rocks!! I have husband that is flawed!! I have a husband who is not perfect!! He (like me) messes up all of the time. He doesn't always say the right things, do the right things or treat me the right way!! He sometimes leaves his socks on the floor after work or his towel on the bathroom floor after his shower. He sometimes forgets to call when he will be late and I worry. He sometimes is short tempered with the kids and gets distracted with work or other things. I know that does not sound like I am going somewhere nice with it but hang on!!

My husband rocks because he admits his faults! He confesses his shortcomings! He tells me that he struggles with life and work and sometimes even his faith!! He tells that its hard being a husband, father, son, friend, employee and child of God. He admits that he is messy and broken and I LOVE THAT!! My husband LOVES me, our kids and most importantly our Savior with all of this heart! He wants to be the man that God has created him to be with every fiber of his being! But he also knows that he will fail! That he won't always do, say and act the way he should! But he is open to hear the voice of God when he calls him to be better!! He prays with me almost everyday that he wants to live up to his potential!! He knows that God wants more for him and he truly believes that he can be a better man!!

I love him so much because he is broken!! His heart is open to God and his heart is committed to me!! How could I ask for more??

From the Mouth of Isaac and the Mind of Ethan

I thought I would post a double edition of life here at the Hill's! Its a riot a minute!! Really.. sometimes I want to riot!!!!

First Isaac...

This morning I made biscuits for breakfast. I handed Isaac his plate and he promptly dropped them on the floor.

Me - "Oh no Isaac, now they are dirty."

Isaac - "It's okay Mama... I eat food of the floor all of the time. Sometimes even we are not home. I just ate some gum under the table at a restaurant a while ago. "

Needless to say, I am so proud.

Now on to Ethan....

He is now saying that he wants to be a movie maker/producer. He bought a stop motion software program at the homeschool bookfair last week! He has been making movies non-stop since. He is not finished with his Lego stop motion movie yet but he would let me share this music video he made. His favorite band is Switchfoot

I just realized the video won't post... I am working on it!!!

What a wacky kid! But I love his creativity!!

Making Your Home Sing Monday - Organization

Making your home sing Mondays

As school winds down and summer break is quickly approaching.... I am going to dedicate this week to organization!! Out with the old and unused and in with the clean and newly arranged. This is no small task either. I know we just moved in and all but WOW how things can get cluttered so quickly. There are 2 rooms in particular that need it desperately!! So, I am cleaning, cleaning, organizing and more cleaning for the next 5 days!! I think it will be a gift to my family that will help with my stress level and I know make my home run more smoothly!!

Any organizational tips? Any places where I can find cheap organizational things??

And the winner is.....

Okay so I wanted to have a fun post with pictures of my drawing the name out of the hat and so on but I can't find my camera!! There is no telling where it is! My older son has been making all kinds of videos with it and I find it in the strangest places. Alas, he is not here to ask so you are going to have to trust me....

So, without further ado.... the winner is..... oh the anticipation.... oh the excitement.....

From the Mouth of Isaac

This morning we woke up to dark and stormy skies... Isaac walks outside and says -

"Mama, I love the smell of a rain storm."

Me- " I do too! It smells clean"

Isaac - "I like it because it smells like eggs and makes me hungry!"

Random man has struck again!!

Blogoversary Party at My Place

Okay... so today is my blogoversary!! I really have no idea what that means anyway. I know it all started with a post about my hair! Weird really... I had no idea what I was doing!! My friend Stacey had been blogging for about a year, I had been without the Internet for about 9 months. I loved looking at her blog and so she encouraged me to try it!! I kept thinking "What is the world am I going to say? I hate journaling, I hate scrapbooking and who in the world is going to care anyway?" But to my surprise, after a few posts, I got the hang of it and I was hooked!! So needless to say, I love blogging! I love to post, I love to take pictures and think about what I am going to say, I love to read others blogs for inspiration, encouragement and sometimes just a good laugh!! I love how we all can share our lives, hurts, struggles, accomplishments and be so encouraging to one another. I kinda feel like I have pen pals all over the world!!

So... now to the celebrating!! I have no idea how this works. I have seen others give stuff away but I am not sure how to do that! But because I love parties and love prizes I thought I would have a giveaway of my own!! I have an Amazon store and love to buy and sell books!! So, I would like to give away one of my favorites. If you click here you can view the book!! DON'T do anything at the Amazon site! Leave a comment on the bottom of this post and at the end of the week I will draw a name out of hat and the book is yours!!

This is so fun!! Have a happy day!! A remember, Just keep blogging, just keep blogging!!

Black Out Month - First Weekend

I would really like a dollar for every time my kids asked to eat out this weekend!! I had no idea how much we go out on the weekends!! It is usually my fault that we do. I give my self permission to not cook on those days! I always have a good excuse like, we are out running errands and have no time to go home, or we have friends that we don't see very often that want to go out for lunch on Sunday or we are so tired after AWANA that I really want (& deserve mind you) Burger King!!I almost caved on the Burger King run last night!! I thought about asking my husband but when my older son asked first and my husband had to remind him that we were not eating out this month, I realized that I am just as bad as my boys are!!! I love fast food!! I crave it and usually in a moment of weakness and on an impulse, go get some!! I don't think we can even eat fast food for less than $15 as a family!! And don't even get me started on the health issue!! I have heard if you have an addiction that it takes about 3 weeks to really stop craving it!! I hope it works!! I would love to break this one!!!

Anyway... one weekend down, one to go!! And in to be perfectly honest, my husband did get me a breakfast burrito for McDonald's yesterday. I had to be at church early, ate a breakfast bar at home but by 11:00 I was starving. He had cash, not in our budget, and graciously got one for me!! Does that count???

On a good note, this is my black out grocery week as well and after evaluating my fridge, I only spent $13.40 at the store today. That's for the whole week and $2.00 of that was a dog treat for my much neglected puppy!! So that's $106.00 less than my normal food and mad money budget for the week!!

Well, only 27 more days to go! Ughhhhhhhhh!!

Black Out May

Those of you that know me best know that I am not an alarmist. I am not freaking out about the economy, the government taking my rights away or most definitely not the swine flu. I find all of these things interesting and fun to talk about but I am not preparing for the worst just yet. But to ignore all of the issues that are surrounding us, I think, would be short-sided and irresponsible. Money has always been an issue with us. We have NEVER been diligent about a budget. We save very little and for many years lived way above our means. Well, not anymore. We as a family are committing to getting out of debt as soon as possible. Steve and I have been reading and discussing our obligation as Christians to be "indebted to no one". Romans 13:8 speaks to the end by stating "Let no debt be outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another." We have really searched our hearts and bank statements to see where our "love" lies and sadly is not to one another as much as to Target, Chick-fil-A, Netflix, Sonic, etc.....

All of this to say that I read this article in a Family Fun Magazine a while ago about saving money, spending more time together and eating healthier. They suggested having a "black-out" month. This is a commitment to spending nothing extra for one month. No eating out, no buying clothes, no entertainment that cost money and so on and so on. At the end of the month, if you live like we do, you should have a substantial surplus of money to roll over to outstanding debts. The money you save should not be considered "extra". I guess unless you have no debt!! The money should be one more step in the direction of living a debt free life!! Steve and I are committed to this and even excited too see how we do. I have already done a lot of brain storming of some free things we can do as a family (I would gratefully take suggestions too!!). I am looking forward to not only the savings but the family time, healthier eating and guilt free conscience of knowing I haven't spent unnecessarily. I am even taking the challenge of my friend Kim to have a black out grocery week where I only buy a few essentials. ie milk, apples, and make meals out of the ingredients I already have in my fridge! I have to do this next week b/c I am afraid at the end of the month it may be a little lean ;)

So...here's to saving money and taking a small step toward freedom!!
