I can't believe I have been so busy that a month has gone by since my baby turned 8. Because of the craziness of this summer, we didn't have a traditional party for him. That was perfectly okay with him b/c in our family turning 8 is a big deal. A few years ago Steve took a class called Raising Modern Day Knights at our church. Its a men's bible study that encourages men to be "real fathers" and raise their sons to be "real men". The bible study lasts a few weeks with the men only and then ends with a ceremony that honors their sons. The men have some sort of "man" dinner, do a few "men" things and then at the end the fathers give their sons something special in a "knighting ceremony". Its a very special time for the men and the boys. Both of my sons have gone through it with Steve now. But one thing the bible study encourages fathers to do is have "right of passage" ceremonies throughout the life of their sons. They are not designated times specifically but they leave that up to the individual families. Steve decided that the first "ceremony" would take place on their eighth birthday. Because we have gone through this with Ethan 2 years ago, Isaac knew it was going to be special. Although Ethan had to keep quiet the specifics of the evening with dad, Isaac knew at the end he would be walking away with his very first pocket knife!! He was almost beside himself counting down the days! So you see way he didn't feel slighted with no party. June 25
th rolled around finally and his time had come. Steve, my dad or BB as Isaac calls him and Isaac set out for their "man time". Steve took him to eat steak at the Outback and presented Isaac with his very first pocketknife and a special engraved bible. Isaac came home on cloud nine. Because the knife that Steve gave him was engraved with a bible verse and is more of a
memento, BB also gave him an "everyday" pocket knife to carry with him on a more regular basis.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY LAUGHING ISAAC!!
Isaac and Dad on their big night

Isaac and I have a special kind of relationship :)

The first thing Isaac did when he came home was find a stick and began whittling on the front porch.. of course I was terrified that he was going to cut his fingers off!!

Just some pics that I love of this crazy kid...
I just love this boy!! Remember the
mohawk! What was I thinking?

He can be crazy but he loves babies! Especially Neal babies!!

What can I say? He gets it from his father?

He also LOVES to dress up! This was his paper Mario costume~

Never a dull,
laughless moment with Isaac around

I just love this picture and the socks on his hands! This is why we call him random man!!

And he LOVES his BB most of all!

Isaac, we love you very much. I can not believe that my baby is growing up to be such a fine young man. You are such a delight to be around. Your soft heart and sentimental spirit is a testimony of your love for Christ and others. Never change your crazy imagination and your infectious smile!!
